Naomi Osaka has won her second U.S. Open title after beating Victoria Azarenka, Saturday September 12, 2020.
The 22-year-old Japanese tennis player battled back from a set down against her Belarusian opponent ,31, to lift her second US Open title in three years with a 1-6 6-3 6-3 victory at Flushing Meadows, New York.
Naomi, is the the highest-earning female athlete in the world. She just added £2.3million to her fortune for winning the prize money. She becomes the first Asian player to win three major titles, surpassing Chinese trailblazer Li Na. She won the 2018 U.S. Open and the 2019 Australian Open.
Victoria Azarenka defeated Serena William at the semifinal to set up the US Open final showdown with Naomi Osaka. The Belarusian tennis player in her statement, said;
“It’s not easy times in the world right now. So I’m very grateful for the opportunity to play in front of millions of people watching on TV, unfortunately not here.”
Naomi Osaka is the first woman to win her first three Grand Slam finals since Jennifer Capriati 2001 AO, 2001 RG, 2002 AO. Congrats to her!!
