NFF Defends Decision To Reinstate Salisu Yusuf As Super Eagles Coach – Rohr Asked For Him

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has defended it’s decision to hand a recall to Salisu Yusuf as first assistant to the senior national team of Nigeria three years after he was suspended for his role in a cash for spot scandal.

Yusuf was caught on tape receiving gratification to include two players in his CHAN team  from a reporter who disguised as an agent to both players during the WAFU tournament in Ghana.

He was subsequently suspended from his role and later relieved from his job following the expiration of his deal but he was yesterday returned back to his role as first assistant. A move which didn’t go down well with many.

Explaining the decision, a chieftain of the NFF said it was the wish of the head coach Gernot Rohr that forced them into handing a recall to Yusuf as first assistant in the Super Eagles.

” Rohr was given options to pick from excluding Yusuf but he insisted on having him back. As we head into the crucial stage of the World Cup qualifiers and also the Africa Cup Of Nations it’s only normal we give him someone he trust”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

“Yusuf’s role has been vacant since he left if you can remember. Imama Amapakabo was there in interim capacity and later Joseph Yobo. It’s clear that Rohr needs someone by his side to aid him tactically and technically and Yusuf is his choice. We had to accept”, he concluded.
