Niger State Government has decried the lack of regulation and uncontrolled proliferation of Private Schools in the state.

It has now inaugurated a fifteen man committee to reposition the state’s Private Schools Board to help it adequately discharge its duties.

The state Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hanatu Jibrin Salihu while inaugurating the Committee in Minna said the State was concerned about the uncontrolled activities of private schools in the state.

“The proliferation of private schools has affected the quality of education development in the State as well as the quality of education the Ministry desired for the children,” she stated.

Salihu explained that the objective of the Committee is to rationalize and sanitize the operations of Private Schools in the State, to streamline monitoring processes, grading the Private Schools for relevant charges that are required to be paid as cooperate citizens of the State among others.

She noted that the terms of reference of the Committee are to review the current processes and practices of the Private Schools Board with a view to identifying operational gaps and challenges.

“The committee is to also identify the quantum of revenue generated and the purpose for which it was effectively and efficiently expended in the last two years of the Private Schools Board’s operation and make other recommendations that may facilitate the achievements or objective for which the Board was established,” the commissioner maintained.

In his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abubakar Sadiq Balarabe urged the members of the Committee to put in their best in ensuring that the desired goal is achieved.

Speaking on behalf of the Committee members, Jibrin Alkali, who is also the Board Chairman of Private Schools commended the Commissioner for the opportunity to serve, while promising to leave nothing to chance in ensuring that the task before them is accomplished.
