Nigerian student d!es in a fatal accident in the UK

A Nigerian student, identified as Chinenye Vera Okonkwo, has died in a fatal road accident in Glasgow city centre, Scotland, United Kingdom.

The 33-year-old, a public health MSc undergraduate at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), was walking on St. Vincent Street at about 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023, when she was involved in the crash that claimed her life.

She passed away following the crash on St. Vincent Street on Thursday, police said in a statement on Wednesday, February 8.

It was gathered that emergency services rushed to the scene, involving two cars and a pedestrian, but Chinenye was pronounced dead.

“Chinenye was a wonderful, kind, intelligent young woman with a strong faith in God. She had a passion to succeed and whatever obstacles she faced were overcome. She was very family-orientated and always had time for everyone. Our lives will never be the same without her.” The deceased family said in a touching tribute to her.

GCU principal and vice-chancellor Prof Steve Decent said,

“It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Chinenye Okonkwo in a tragic road traffic accident. We offer our sincere condolences to Chinenye’s family and friends and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time. This is a terrible shock for our community, especially those who knew Chinenye.”
