No goals or assists in five games, Fenerbahce slipping with Ozil

Mesut Ozil signing for Fenerbahce appeared to be a dream move for both parties, but things haven’t gotten off to the start they’d hoped for.

In five games, Ozil has failed to score or assist as Fener have fallen to three defeats.

That run has seen them lose their lead at the top of the table, now sitting third, and be knocked out the cup by Istanbul Basaksehir.

The slow start could be put down to the 32-year-old’s lack of football in the last year, having not appeared for Arsenal since March 7, 2020, before the Premier League’s COVID-19 shutdown.

Fenerbahce are level on points with Besiktas and three behind Galatasaray as the Turkish Super Lig heads towards an exciting finish.

Ozil will need to get up to speed quickly if he wants to help lift Fener out of this slump and help them towards what would be their first league title since 2013/14.
