Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, has asked the Osun State Government for financial support toward his wedding.

This was contained in a letter sighted by a thedabigal correspondent in the state on Friday.

The monarch is reportedly preparing to marry a princess from the Ado Bayero dynasty of Kano.

In the letter which was dated February 8, 2022 and with reference number HIM/TELU 1/14, and addressed to the state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, Oba Akanbi disclosed that the total requested sum was N20 million.

Part of the letter read, “I have the instructions of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, to notify you of the Oluwo’s decision to marry a princess from Kano Emirate, to be precise Ado Bayero dynasty.

“I wish to remind Your Excellency that this kind of royal wedding within two notable traditional institutions in Nigeria, will require huge expenses, which necessitates support of state government financially even logistically.

“Moreover, the estimated amount for the event is above (N20,000,000:00) twenty million Naira.

“His Excellency, Oba Oba Akanbi for necessary consideration and approval on this request.

“Thank you.”

However, Alli Ibraheem, the Chief Press Secretary to Oba Akanbi, in a phone conversation with thedabigal debunked the contents of the letter.

The Oluwo’s spokesperson said the letter was fake as it did not emanate from the palace of the Oluwo.
