Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has suspended the Chairman of the state Civil Service Commission, Uko Inaku.

No reason was given for the suspension in a statement signed by Secretary to State government, Prof Anthony Owan-Enoh.

In his place, Otu has appointed Sir Maurice Effiwat with immediate effect.

In the same vein, Otu has also removed his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche, a one time chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abuja Council.

Since Ogbeche’s appointment over eight months ago, there were reports that he was unable to relate well with media practitioners in the state.

Otu has now appointed Comrade Nsa-Abasi Gill, Chairman of NUJ in Cross River State, as his new Chief Press Secretary.

Linus Obogo, who served as Deputy Chief Press Secretary to former governor Ben Ayade, has been returned as Special Adviser Media & Publicity.

Other appointments announced in the statement were those of Prince Edwin Okon as Chairman, Internal Revenue Service, as well as that of Mr Abang Sylvester Otu as State Chief of Protocol.

The appointments take effect from 11th March, 2024.
