The goalkeeper crisis rocking the senior national team of Nigeria has forced the coaches of the team into looking at other options as the start of the World Cup qualifiers and next year Africa Cup of Nations draws near, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Although head coach of the team Jose Peseiro has given his backing to current first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho despite his constant howlers, particularly in the last back to back friendly games of the team against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively. He is said to have opened talks with another goalkeeper.
We exclusively gathered that the coach has already made contact with a new goalkeeper who is expected to be a part of the team for the World Cup qualifiers, and possibly the Africa Cup of Nations next year.
However that is not saying the new goalkeeper will be first choice automatically. He will still have to battle it out with the trio of Uzoho, Maduka Okoye and Adebayo Adeleye but he is said to be highly rated and came highly recommended.
His dentity we can’t reveal to protect our relationship with source. Talks over his invitation started two days ago and Peseiro is expected to travel to meet with him ahead of a possible inclusion in the team for the upcoming games.
