Akwa United defender David Philip has said the players are ready to record their first victory of the season against Gombe United on Wednesday.

The Promise Keepers are yet to taste victory in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season.

According to Philip, the game is an opportunity for the Uyo club to redeem their image.

“Our position on the league table is a matter of great concern to everyone at the club and we are fully aware that it is up to us to get it right in our next game,” he told the club’s media.

“Our position on the NPFL table doesn’t really reflect how we play, I’m happy that at the moment, the mood in camp is very encouraging and we have motivated ourselves well enough because everyone wants to play and contribute to the team’s success.

“We know it’s not going to be easy but we are prepared and ready to give our all and ensure we record victory.

“Victory on Wednesday may be the much needed turn around to kickstart our season.”
