The Police have confirmed the abduction of a Taraba lawmaker, Bashir Mohammed.

He represents Nguroje Constituency in the House of Assembly.

Mohammed, the Minority Leader, was snatched on Wednesday morning from his residence in Jalingo.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP David Misal, told NAN that the captive was seized after sporadic gunshots.

His house is located next to the Comprehensive Secondary School, Jalingo.

Misal confirmed that the police and other security agencies were making efforts to rescue Mohammed.

The abductors are yet to make any contact with the family.

Bashir is the second Assembly member kidnapped in recent years.

In December 2017, Hosea Ibi, Takum I Constituency representative, was kidnapped and killed.
