Under fire coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has confirmed that he has been told by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to vacate his position despite qualifying the team for the 2022 World Cup play off.
Rohr has come under heavy criticism for the poor performance of the Super Eagles which is mainly about the style of play of the team under the German manager who has been at the helm since 2016.
As exclusively reported by this portal, the coach has been told his services is no longer needed and this much he confirmed in an interview with the online edition of Punch. According to the report the coach said he has been asked to quit but he hasn’t accepted yet ” “Not yet, but that’s what they want me to do”, he was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, we gathered he has already opened talks with his lawyers over the request from the NFF for him to quit his role due to the fact that he is due some compensation base on the terms of his contract signed in 2020. He still has one more year to go.
On their part, the NFF are pushing for both parties to reach a mutual agreement on his exit as they can’t afford to pay the amount he is due as compensation for his sack. Their main sponsor which we earlier reported will pick the bill have backed out due to the amount involved.
NFF are holding talks with a financial institution to help out with the fee which is rumoured to be around $450,000 aside other bonuses. It could rise to as high as $600,000 if that is factored in.
