Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says several football players who are eligible for other nations want to play for Nigeria.

Nigeria have been active in luring players born abroad since the appointment of Rohr in 2013 with as many as seven players with dual nationality namely Tyronne Ebuehi, Ola Aina, Maduka Okoye, Kevin Akpoguma, Josh Maja, Cyriel Dessers and Joe Aribo making their debut under his reign.

According to Rohr, that number might increased before the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations or during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with other players showing interest.

“ We get lot of calls from players who want to play for us but we can take all of them because they have to be better than what we have at the moment to be considered. Also in certain areas we have very good options so we are not keen”, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.

The coach however lament the long process it takes to get some players cleared particularly those born in England as was the case with Ola Aina which took two years.

“ We have a situation with Aina that took two years. We wish for it to be a lot faster but we don’t control it especially the players from England. The team has to move on when we have such delays”.
