Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has given a hint on the strikers he is considering as alternative to Napoli forward Victor Osimhen in the Super Eagles squad for AFCON Qualifiers.
The coach is due to release the list in two weeks time and with Osimhen now back in competitive football with Napoli, Rohr confirmed that he will retain his choice as first choice striker.
He is however excited that the team now has other players who can provide good competition for the 21 year old owing to their form for their various sides in Europe.
Aside Paul Onuachu who has 21 goals this season, the coach also named the quartet of Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Sadiq Umar and Simy Nwankwo as other strikers in with a chance of making the squad.
“ We have other strikers (doing very well with their clubs),” Rohr said.
“Yes, Paul Onuachu (Genk, Belgium), Simy Nwankwo (Crotone, Italy), Taiwo Awoniyi (Union Berlin, Germany), Umar Sadiq (Almeria, Spain) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City, England); so there is à good competition on that position and we are scouting all of them.”
