Senate President Bukola Saraki has formally declared his intention to run for the office of the president of Nigeria under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections.
Mr. Saraki made his declaration on Thursday at Sheraton hotel where he met with young aspirants of the PDP.
He recently defected from the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP in what was considered a move towards his bid for the presidency in 2019.
Saraki has been on a nationwide tour since the Sallah break, consulting with PDP bigwigs before making the declaration.
His declaration comes a day after another PDP senator, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also declared to run for president in Abuja.
They join former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, former PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman Ahmed Makarfi and Gombe State Govenror Ibrahim Dankwambo among others vying for the PDP ticket.
