Newly promoted Italian Serie A side Cremonese are shaping up for the new season by identifying and signing players who will help their cause to at least maintain their status in the Italian top flight next season.

Cremonese finished second last season in the Serie B and sealed an automatic return to the top division. They are returning to the top division for the first time since the 1995-1996 season when they were relegated.

One of the areas they intend to strengthen is in attack and they made their move toward Nigeria international striker Cyriel Dessers who is keen on a move away from Belgium side Genk.

He spent last season on loan at Dutch side Feyenoord and emerged as top scorer in the Europa Conference League. They however turn down the option of signing him permanently citing financial issues and a failure to agree personal terms.

Now back at Genk, his future still remains uncertain hence the bid from Cremonese last week. It was rejected by Genk who are looking for a fee in the region of €4m for the 27 year old who has two years to go on his deal at the club. The bid reportedly falls below the valuation of Genk.
