Sokoto Senatorial District Rerun: Wamakko re-elected Senator for third time

Senator representing Sokoto Senatorial District, Aliyu Wamakko has been re-elected after a rerun of the election that took place on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

He was declared the winner on Sunday after defeating his closest rival who is the incumbent Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, of the Peoples Democratic Party with a margin of 23,023 votes.

Wamakko, who was a two-term governor of Sokoto State was declared by the Returning Officer for the Sokoto North senatorial election, Ibrahim Magawata.

Magawata in his declaration said, the All Progressives Congress, APC, polled a total of 141,468 to defeat Manir Dan’Iya of the Peoples Democratic Party with 118,445 votes.

Meanwhile, Wamakko, who is the Senate Committee Chairman on Defence is returning to the Senate for the third time.
