The incidents occurred at the Refinery Junction in Eleme.

One of the deceased, a woman in her 60s slumped after disembarking from a commercial motorcycle, The Nation reports.

The second, a man around 70 years old, died after alighting from a commercial vehicle.

His son rushed to the scene after he was called.

The young man and others took the corpse away.

He was quoted as saying his father was at Eleme to withdraw money at a bank.

The deaths have been linked to the COVID-19 second wave.

The new coronavirus strain, first observed in October/November 2020, is escalating worldwide.

Nigeria recorded 1,354 new infections on Tuesday, the highest daily figure since the start of the pandemic.
