The Uruguayan scored the winner as Diego Simeone’s men won 2-1 away at Valladolid to be crowned champions.
Real Madrid, the only team who could have caught up with them also won their game, 2-1 against Villarreal but it was not enough.
Atletico finished the season, 86 points to Madrid’s 84.
The champions were forced by Real Valladolid to come from behind to earn a first championship for seven years and their 11th in total.
