The coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has given his opinion on having players born abroad or who have represented other countries play for Nigeria if they are still eligible.

Ghana have so far succeeded in convincing around six players born abroad to switch allegiance to them ahead of the World Cup. A move that has triggered wave of comments particularly on if other African countries will go that route.

Peseiro who inherited a team made up of around 8 players born abroad hasn’t called up any new names and for the first time he gave his opinion on inviting players born abroad to be a part of his team.

The coach who started on a sound note with two straight wins in his first two competitive games for Nigeria, by beating Sierra Leone 2-1 and trashing São Tomé and Principe is open to the idea of players born abroad in his team but gave conditions for it to happen.

” It doesn’t matter where they are born. If they want to play for us and I see that they can improve our team then I will hand them a chance. The best players only should play for Nigeria but they must be willing to play and give their best for the team”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
