The Super Eagles of Nigeria will begin their AFCON 2023 qualifiers in June without their voiceferous fans following a one match ban on the Moshood Abiola Stadium by FIFA.
FIFA slammed a one match ban on the Abuja stadium following crowd trouble in the aftermath of Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Ghana, which cost them a spot in the World Cup in Qatar.
Nigeria were also fined 150,000 CHF over same incident. Senegal were also fined same amount for the crowd trouble in their own game during the World Cup playoff although they progresed to the World Cup.
Super Eagles first competitive game after the failure to qualify for the World Cup will be against Sierra Leone in the race to be at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in June. The fine means fans won’t be allowed to witness the game.
