Suspected smuggler arrested by customs in Katsina not a policeman – Spokesman

The Katsina State Police Command has said that the acclaimed police officer paraded for smuggling by the Katsina State Command of the Nigerian Customs Service, on Wednesday, is a police impersonator.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Gambo Isah made the disclosure while parading the impostor before pressmen at the Katsina command’s headquarters on Thursday.

Recall that thedabigal reported the arrest by customs operatives of a smuggler who claimed to be an assistant superintendent of police.

The suspect, with four different means of identifications, including that of the Nigeria Police, was transferred to the police command for further investigation to ascertain if the suspect is truly a police officer.

SP Gambo while addressing the press said:
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Police after conducting a thorough and discreet investigation on the suspect, discovered that he is not a police officer but an impostor. The police ID card found in his possession is fake.

”The Command hereby wishes to inform the members of the public to note that the suspect arrested is not a policeman but an impostor.”

Consequently, SP Gambo said the suspected smuggler will be transferred back to the Katsina Command of the Nigerian Customs Service for prosecution.

The police impersonator, while being interrogated by the press said: “I am not a police officer. I only use their ID card and other items found on me to make it easier for me to beat security checkpoints on the road.”
