Borno residents fear for the life of a young Christian lady who is being accused by youths of insulting Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on Facebook.

This is coming days after a 200-level female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Deborah Samuel was burnt to death within the school premises over similar allegations.

The young lady identified as Naomi Goni has been taken into protective custody by the police over the death threats by the youths.

Some religious extremists in Borno State have threatened to kill her for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on Facebook.

Championing the threat is one Abdulmajid Tanko Izge who claimed to be the President of Borno Youth Support.

He vowed that the death penalty was the punishment that would be meted out to Naomi.

He added, “Naomi you must face the consequences. We will continue raising our voice until action is taken. #Findnaomigoni.”

Having seen the rising tension created by the murder of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto State on Saturday, the Borno State Police Command, late Saturday, and through the early hours of Sunday, engaged some critical stakeholders in a peacebuilding meeting at the command’s headquarters in Maiduguri to forestall any unrest that might disrupt the peace of the already ravaged state of the North-East sub-region.

The Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, who convened the meeting at the instance of the state government disclosed to The PUNCH, shortly after the meeting, that an intelligence report indicated that certain elements were already gearing up for a shutdown in the city in reaction to the Sokoto State incident but that his personnel, along with other security agencies like the Civil Defence, the DSS, and the military, have been deployed across the state capital maintain decorum.
