

The head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has been told that the president of the federal republic of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu is keen on the team winning next year Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Peseiro’s short term contract as coach of the Super Eagles will be extended if the team gets to the final of the AFCON, the extension will cover the duration of the World Cup qualifiers and possibly the tournament itself in 2026.
In a meeting called by the minister for sports development Senator John Enoh alongside the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was briefed on the importance of winning the tournament.
He was told by the minister that winning the AFCON is a big deal to the government of the day and that is why among all sports associations, it is only the NFF that has a separate budget for its activities.
A promise was made by the minister that all hands will be on deck to ensure the success of the team, reminding the coach that he was granted an extension on the trust that he will help the team to do well at the AFCON.
