Former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has taken a swipe at the coach of Napoli Luciano Spalleti over his decision to bench Victor Osimhen in their 1-1 draw against Cagliari.
After a not too impressive performance against Barcelona in the Europa League, the club record signing was made to start from the bench against Cagliari in the Serie A on Monday.
Osimhen came in as a substitute with Napoli trailing 1-0 and went on to help them rescuse a point from the game with a bullet header. The draw wasn’t good enough for Napoli however as they wasted a good chance to go top of the table.
Reacting to the chance that they threw away, Moggi writing in his editorial for Libero blamed it on the decision not to start Osimhen with a warning to Spalleti that the Nigerian has to start if he is fit as the Napoli team is ordinary without him.
“The good Cagliari deserve a point base on how they tied title contenders Napoli 1-1. The Neapolitans did not take advantage of the losses of the Milanese team, they risk succumbing and draw only in the final minutes with Osimhen. For Spalletti a point recovered over Inter (who, however, has one game less) and a question: Was Osimhen not able to play from the start? Without him it is another team. the Sassuolo”, he wrote.
