A young man in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, has taken his own life.

The youth, a resident of Rumde Baru in the Jimeta District of Yola, was found hanging by residents on Saturday.

People of the area woke up to find the lifeless body dangling from a branch of a tree.

Some of the people in the neighbourhood said they had performed the morning Islamic prayer in a Mosque with the deceased.

The morning prayer in question is usually done around 4 am.

It is not clear why the youth decided to hang himself as at press time.

In a reaction, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said investigations had started on the matter.

“Following the report received on the incident of a young boy that hanged himself around Rumde Baru, Yola North Local Government Area, the Command’s crime officers were deployed by the Commissioner of Police now working in collaboration with medical experts to investigate the circumstances leading to the commission of the act,” Nguroje stated.
