The BudgiT, a data-driven Nigerian civic organisation has released the top five agencies in Education with the highest capital in the 2022 allocation.
This is as the civic organisations faulted the federal government statistics claiming that 7.9 per cent (1.29 trillion) is allocation to the education sector.
BudgiT stated that, instead, 7.2 per cent which is N1.18 trillion was allocated to the education sector.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had, in October, presented the 2022 budget estimate to a joint session of the National Assembly.
Buhari’s proposed total of N16. 39 trillion represents a 12.9 per cent increase over the N14. 57 trillion appropriated for 2021 which falls by 9.04 per cent.
In the 2022 Federal Government education sector proposed budget, N44.6 billion was allocated to the Federal Ministry of Education; N31.1 billion for the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC); 13.2 billion was budgeted to the National Universities Commission.
National Open University got 2.6 billion while Federal University of Lokoja 1.6 billion in the 2022 proposed budget.
The federal government proposed a total of N875.93bn (excluding TetFund) —of this amount, N174bn was earmarked for CAPEX, while N701bn was set aside for recurrent expenditure.
A breakdown of the total allocation to the sector(+TetFund) include, Ministry of Education – N762bn; UBEC – N108bn; Transfers to TetFund – N306bn.
