The Dutch giants were in the market for a young goalkeeper ahead of the start of next season but despite openly flirting with Okoye who did well at Sparta Rotterdam, the club has settled for Go Ahead Eagles shot stopper Jay Gorter.

Gorter has already signed a deal which will run till the summer of 2025 effectively putting to an end speculations of their interest in Okoye which was also confirmed by the goalkeeper himself.

Ajax settled for Gorter who was voted best goalkeeper in the Dutch second division for the second consecutive season and in the process bring him back to the club where he started his football career.

For Okoye he will no doubt focus on building on what was his first professional season at the age of 21 which he finished with ten clean sheets in 28 games after rising to the role of first choice from the B team.
