The reported interest of Brighton and Hove Albion in signing Nigeria international defender Calvin Bassey from Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam isn’t close to happening yet, despite speculations to the contrary, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

As first reported by OGN on the 5th of June, Brighton sounded out the representatives of the Nigerian defender when they failed to reach an agreement with Chelsea for the permanent signing of Levi Colwill, following the expiration of his loan deal.

His representatives made it clear that he will be interested in a move away after failing to settle at Ajax in his first year. However it all depends on how much Brighton will be willing to spend with Ajax expected to demand around €20m.

Both camps have been in talks but no bid has been made yet. Ajax are also leaving the decision on the future of the Nigerian in the hands of the new coach of the team Maurice Steijn.

However, Steijn alongside technical director Sven Mislintat will discuss his future if Brighton tables an offer that meets their valuation but for now no formal offer has been submitted. Making news that the deal is 90 percent done incorrect.
