Awoniyi Hit Brace For Union Berlin, Replaces Moffi In Super Eagles Squad For World Cup Qualifiers

Union Berlin forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been handed a maiden call up to the senior national team of Nigeria for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers game against Central Africa Republic.

Awoniyi was picked by coach Gernot Rohr as a replacement for Lorient forward Terem Moffi who who won’t be available for the game after picking up an injury in yesterday’s Ligue 1 game against Clermont Foot.

Moffi was called up as a replacement for Everton forward Alex Iwobi who also picked up an injury in training. The forward was a part of the sqaud for the last round of games against Liberia and Cape Verde.

The call up for Awoniyi came few minutes after his match winning brace for Union Berlin against Mainz O5 in the German Bundesliga. His 5th goal this season from seven games.

From twelve games in all competitions this season, the 24 year old has scored eight goals so far making this season one of his most prolific ever with less than ten games played so far.
