Former Chelsea defender Celestine Babayaro has faulted the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation to sack Gernot Rohr makes no sense.
Rohr has been told he won’t be in charge of the Nigerian team to the Africa Cup of Nations next year but the requirements for his disengagement is yet to be perfected by the NFF.
A severance fee as well as the modalities of payment owing to the fact that he has met all targets set in his contract is largely responsible for the lack of movement on the decision to let go of the German tactician.
Responding to the impasse Babayaro said it’s nothing but a show of shame considering the amount the coach will command as compensation in the event of his dismissal. An amount the NFF can’t afford at the moment.
” If they have that amount why not use it to develop football and also pay the backlog of what they are owing the coaches and players. It makes no sense to sack a coach who has met all targets set before him. Look at the amount involved? Can they pay?”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive chat.
” It’s not even an issue to start with. Best you can do is wait for a loophole in his contract to exploit not waste money. Has anyone thought of the target that will be given to whoever succeeds Rohr as coach? This is a laughable and it shows the level of understanding of the people administering football in our country”, he concluded.
