EPL: I don’t understand – Melchiot questions Pochettino over Chelsea star

Former Chelsea defender, Mario Melchiot, is not pleased with manager Mauricio Pochettino playing centre-back Levi Colwill out of position.

Colwill has been with Chelsea since he joined their academy from Southampton in 2011.

But the 20-year-old had to wait 12 years to make his senior debut for the Blues, which came under Pochettino this season.

Colwill started at left-back in Chelsea’s last two Premier League games, despite Ian Maatsen and Ben Chilwell being on the bench.

However, Melchiot believes Pochettino is wrong to play Colwill out of position.

“I like Colwill. I was one of the first to say don’t sell him, but I don’t understand why you [Pochettino] play him there,” the Dutchman told ESPN FC (h/t TheChelseaChronicle).

“If you want to play him, play him in the centre of the backline, in the centre.”
