Ex-Super Eagles star Michael Babatunde ends stay at Wydad Casablanca

Former Super Eagles midfielder Michael Babatunde has penned a emotional farewell message to Wydad Casablanca after three years stint at the Moroccan club.

Babatunde’s contract expired on Tuesday, June 28th and the midfielder decided against putting pen to paper for another deal.

In a post on his Instagram page on Thursday, the 28-year-old who made name for himself at 2014 World Cup in Brazil with the Super Eagles expressed gratitude to the management of the club and fans.

“These years in Wydad Casablanca, have been wonderful. None of this would have been possible without the club’s support. Special thanks to the fans, my teammates, the club staffs, to the coaches who had confidence in me and gave me the opportunity to grow as a player. However, I believe that the time has come for a new chapter in my career. To the fans, you have been absolutely amazing in the last three years. It has been an exciting one for me in the city of Morocco.

“To everyone at Wydad, Goodbye and thank you. Wydad will be forever in my heart. Keep the flag flying,” he said.

Babatunde, who netted 13 goals for the club since joining them from FC Qatar in 2018, won domestic crown and played in the CAF Champions League final.

He previously played for Heartland FC (Nigeria), Volyn Lutsky, Kryvbas, Dnipro (All Ukraine),  Qatar SC (Qatar) and and Raja Casablanca.

Babatunde has 17 full caps for Nigeria with two goals.
