Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye have been released by relegated German Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

Okoye was among the players not offered fresh terms as the club begin their quest to return back to the top division in Germany next season. He leaves the club without making a single appearance for the first team.

Despite progressing from U19 to the first team, he only got game time with the reserve team playing in the 4th division of German football.

The goalkeeper who made his debut for Nigeria in the international friendly game against Brazil was hoping he will be offered fresh terms after making the step up to the first team where he was second choice at some point.

Linked with a move to Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam, the move which went as far as negotiations over a free transfer has gone cold although a source claim he is working on other deals.
