Former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr is close to making a return to coaching six months after he was sacked as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria.

Rohr was sacked with Nigeria through to the world cup playoff and just three weeks away from the Africa Cup of Nations. The team went to the AFCON and crashed out at the round of 16, their worst performance in over 40 years.

Their woes was compounded with a 1-1 draw against Ghana in Abuja denying them the chance to qualify for the World Cup. Austin Eguavoen, the technical director was in charge on both occasions.

He has been relieved off his job but as Nigeria continue to search for a foreign coach to head the technical crew of the team which has been reconstituted, Rohr is reportedly the front runner to be named as coach of the Eagles of Mali.

According to several reports from Mali, he is expected to be named the coach of the time just in time before the start of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in June.
