Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says the return of Odion Ighalo to the senior national team of Nigeria will benefit current first choice striker Victor Osimhen more.
Ighalo has been handed a recall by Gernot Rohr for the final two games of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, a move which has generated discussions with many seeing it as a step backward considering the number of players Nigeria boast of in mainstream Europe who are doing well.
The argument is that bringing Ighalo who plays in Saudi Arabia ahead of the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Terem Moffi and Sadiq Umar who are doing very well in Germany, France and Spain isn’t a fair decision.
Rohr has insisted that he is bringing Ighalo back due to his experience and he has now gone a step further to say he will also compliment Osimhen in the attack of the team.
” Sometimes we want to play with two strikers. Now we have Ighalo back so we can play one young striker and another experience one in attack. It gives us an edge because they are both very good in different ways. I see Ighalo as a good partner for Osimhen in attack”, Rohr told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
