The Ijaw National Congress, INC Worldwide, has rejected on behalf of the Niger Delta people, the Petroleum Industry Bill which was recently passed into law by the National Assembly.
This was contained in a communique signed and issued by the INC National President, Prof. Benjamin Okaba.
“PIB, as passed and awaiting the President’s assent, is not acceptable by the people of the Niger Delta.
“Extra-legislative efforts as vehicles of cohesive persuasion directed at the presidency should continue in a strategic fashion to buttress our 10% demand to host communities.
“Such persuasions are in compliance with the tenets of constitutional democracy.”
The INC appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of conscience, equity and in the interest of national integration, resend the PIB to the National Assembly for reconsideration and upward review.
“We should not capitulate as a region at making rightful demands within the polity,” it said.
