Another reason has emerged as to why Lionel Messi decided to leave Barcelona where he had spent his entire playing career.

Popular Spanish football journalist, Terry Gibson linked the 34-year-old’s exit from Camp Nou to their continued chase of European Super League.

According to him, the Catalan giants would be able to easily afford Messi in terms of the salary caps, but were reluctant to do that.

Lionel Messi: PSG to pay player €769,000 per week

“I don’t think he’s happy with what’s happening at Barcelona,” he told talkSPORT.

“Barcelona would be able to easily afford Messi in terms of the salary caps, but they’re reluctant to do that.

“They’re going to turn down the money that’s being offered to them to continue this fight for a Super League.

“I think Messi has realised, if they’re going to go down that road, he’s going to go elsewhere.”

According to reports, the Argentina captain is already in talks with French giants, Paris Saint-Germain, and Gibson added, “I do believe he will go to PSG.”
