Liverpool could look within the Premier League for Jurgen Klopp’s successor, according to The Athletic.

Klopp is set to leave Anfield at the end of this current campaign.

According to the 56-year-old, he is “running out of energy” after nine years at the club.

The Reds reportedly began the process of finding Klopp’s successor, even before he publicly announced he would be departing.

They made contact with several agents since November, when Klopp officially informed the club.

Xabi Alonso is the hot favourite to take the job following his fine work at Bayer Leverkusen.

But Brentford boss Thomas Frank is also admired by senior officials at Liverpool.

Frank has impressed during his three seasons in the English topflight with the Bees, and the high-pressing, energetic style that he demands from his players is viewed as similar to the approach Klopp has implemented at Liverpool.

Frank is also known for his big personality on the touchline and in press conferences, much like Klopp.
