The former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says he was attacked by some section of the Nigerian media when he made attempts to lure Bayern Munich star midfielder Jamal Musiala to play for Nigeria.
Musiala was eligible to play for Nigeria through his Nigerian roots, he also qualifies for England and Germany and after representing both European countries he decided to pledge his senior international future to Germany.
However, the first country to have offered him the chance of senior international football was the Super Eagles of Nigeria through former coach Gernot Rohr, with his approach coming even before he made his debut for the first team of Bayern Munich.
Rohr recalled that back then some Nigerians in the media criticised his decision to go for a player in the youth teams of Bayern Munich saying we have better players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
” I made move for him ( Musiala) because I could see that he is a talent who will blossom in a very short time. He was special at such a young age. Back in Nigeria then some people wondered why I wanted him badly. They said we have better players in the League and mocked my decision. They know better now”, the coach of Benin Republic ended his take on his time with Nigeria.
