No Chukwueze, No Osimhen In Super Eagles Squad For World Cup Qualifiers, Awoniyi, Musa Return

With less than a month to the first qualifiers game of the senior national team of Nigeria in the race to be at the 2026 World Cup, head coach of the team Jose Peseiro has sent out invitations to player who will prosecute the first two games of the series, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Nigeria will take on Lesotho on the 13th of November in Uyo before travelling to take on  Zimbabwe four days later in Harare. Already invitation letters has been sent out to players who will be part of the game.

Peseiro usually send out invitation letters to 35 players before pruning it down to 25 and this time around it is the same situation. The letters were sent out early in respect to FIFA’s requirements for letters to be sent three weeks before any international break.

In the list, Ahmed Musa who missed the last friendly games due to visa issues returns. Taiwo Awoniyi has also back in the team after missing out on the last friendly games due to injury. He is expected to lead the line in the absence of Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen is out injured and won’t be back until after the international break. The same situation with Samuel Chukwueze, who is also expected to be back in action after the next international break per a statement from his club AC Milan.

The final list of players called up for the games will be made public ten days to the first game in Uyo.
