The government of governor Alex Otti of Abia State has come under pressure from concerned quarters over the way Kanu Nwankwo is handling the affairs of Enyimba international of Aba, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Enyimba were yesterday in Uyo beaten 0-1 by Wydad AC of Morocco in the first leg of the newly introduced Africa Super League, leaving them with a lot to do ahead of the return leg in Morocco.
The scoreline wasn’t the main talking point of the game with the Moroccan side considered as a stronger than the Nigerians based on recent results on the African continent. Enyimba’s poor handling of affairs around the game has been the major concerns.
The shirt number and name of one of the players of the club was written with marker on the back of his jersey. An embarrassment that was seen around the world as the game was live on TV and also dragged the image of the club down the drain.
A former Nigeria international like Kanu, he was culpable for the confusion that saw the team’s goalkeeper trainer on the bench instead of the two coaches of the team in Finidi George and Olarewaju Yema.
They were both not allowed on the bench of the team because they don’t have a CAF A coaching license rather they carry a UEFA coaching license, which isn’t approved by CAF for continental games.
It was part of why Libyan side Al-Ahly Benghazi triumphed over them. It’s the first time that Enyimba will be crashing out of the first round of the qualifying rounds of the tournament. Their domestic form hasn’t been the best as well.
Appointed by the new governor Otti as replacement for long serving chairman Felix Anyasi, the expected transformation the former Arsenal star was expected to bring hasn’t been the case so far.
