The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate complaints of Police brutality in Adamawa State has submitted its report to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
The Commission handed over its report on Monday, expressing hope that the government would find it useful.
The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Adamu Hobon (rtd), presented the report, which came in three volumes, disclosing that 13 complaints came before the commission.
Justice Adamu Hobon said, “The commission received a total of 13 memoranda from affected individuals, together with their documentary exhibitions.”
He said some of the losses that petitioners complained about were mental trauma, physical pains, losses of properties and loss of human lives.
The retired justice who later fielded questions from newsmen did not state how many human lives were said to have been lost to police brutality in the state.
Justice Hobon was also mum on its recommendations to the government but told newsmen, “The report is now with the government and it is up to it to do a white paper and make it public.”
The Judicial Commission of Enquiry to Investigate Complaints on Police Brutality or Related Extra-Judicial Killings in Adamawa State, was established via a letter referenced SGS 1/127/Vol 1/5 of 9th November 20202.
Hobon said earlier while presenting the report that the commission concluded its findings and stopped sittings on January 23, 2021.
Asked why it took so long for the submission of the report, Justin Hobon said this was the time the commission secured the audience of the state governor.
Receiving the report, Governor Fintiri promised that it would be given all the attention it deserves.
“The recommendations will be implemented raw,” Fintiri asserted.
