Captain of the senior national team of Nigeria Ahmed Musa is among the players called up by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr for the 2022 AFCON qualifiers, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Rohr backtracked on his earlier decision to leave his captain out by including him in his squad despite his current status as a clueless player who last played competitive club football on the 22nd of October last year.

Musa terminated his contact with Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia after growing frustrated with life in the oil rich country but his bid to get a new club suffered a set back when he failed to bag a deal with West Brom during the January transfer window.

Now back in Nigeria, he will be among the players who will resume training for the AFCON qualifiers games against Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively at the end of this month.

“ Musa is in the squad on the insistence of the coach. Rohr knows why he wants him around the team and as the coach we have to grant him what he wants as per players selection”, an NFF board member told this portal.
