Sparta Rotterdam first choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is not the first choice goalkeeper of the Super Eagles yet according to coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

Okoye has kept goal for the Super Eagles in their last four games with his form at his Dutch side also improving with four clean sheets in seven games this season.

In the Nigeria national team he faces strong competition from the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Francis Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa and according to Rohr he has to stay consistent if he want to keep his spot.

“ All the goalkeepers in the team have been first choice for some time and now it’s Okoye’s turn. He has to work really hard to hang on to the position because the others are eager to be there. So it is not his own yet”, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.

The coach was however quick to praise the rise of the goalkeeper who was playing in the German 4th division around this time last year “ He has done well with his club and that’s what you need to be in our team “.

Rohr also praised Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi for his consistency in the PSL as well as his discipline in the Super Eagles team.

“ He is one player that many should learn from especially the young ones. Aside his consistency at his club he is also a squad player who brings a lot to the team beyond just playing “.
