The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will next week know their fate after they were dragged to world football governing body FIFA by former coach Gernot Rohr.
Rohr was sacked with one year left on his deal despite meeting all of the clauses in his contract, one of which is to qualify Nigeria for the World Cup and they were through to the playoff when he was sacked.
They ended up losing the World Cup ticket to Ghana after a disastrous Africa Cup of Nations campaign where they crashed out in the round of 16 losing 0-1 to Tunisia. Their worst performance in 40 years.
Sacked with only three weeks to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, the German coach is challenging his sack and also demanding a compensation package from the NFF.
This much was made known by Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana who is very close to the coach. He made this known on Twitter and said Rohr told him a verdict will be known next week.
“Breaking: Former @NGSuperEagles coach Gernot Rohr tells me he is expecting a verdict from @FIFAcom next week, concerning his complaint (and demand for compensation) against ‘unfair dismissal’ by @thenff, which sacked him last December, with just weeks to the #AFCON2021.”, He posted.
“I don’t want to speak about anything concerning my relationship with @thenff for now. I am expecting to get the result of my case against them next week, from @FIFAcom,” he quoted Rohr as saying from his home in France.
