Spain thrash sloppy Germany 6-0

Spain dismantled woeful Germany 6-0 in Seville on Tuesday night, booking their place in the UEFA Nations League finals.

There was some surprise when it emerged that more people in Germany watched an antiques show last Wednesday night than the nation’s friendly against Czech Republic.

Perhaps they knew what they were doing, though. There was certainly nothing of value to be found in Germany’s performance against Spain on Tuesday – just pure rubbish.

Goals from Alvaro Morata, Ferran Torres and Rodri thrust the Spaniards into a 3-0 half-time lead – the first time Germany had conceded three in the opening period since 2006 – but things would only get worse for the incompetent visitors.

Manchester City’s Torres would complete his hat-trick with a pair of strikes after the break before Die Mannschaft’s 6-0 humiliation – their biggest defeat since 1931 – was confirmed with a tap-in from substitute Mikel Oyarzabal in the closing stages.

Speaking to ARD after the match, German coach, Low expressed his disappointment at what he called a “pitch-black day” for the 2014 World Cup champions.

“It’s hard to explain at the moment, we had a pitch-black day when nothing worked at all,” Low said. “Everything was really bad today in every respect. You couldn’t find anything good. We wanted to be brave and play forward but nothing worked today – neither offensively or defensively.

“After the first goal we gave up our whole concept. We opened up and the Spaniards were so good that they took advantage of it. No organisation, no proximity to the players, no communication. We gave up order and that was deadly.”
