Raheem Sterling said he was “honoured” to join the impressive list of players who have scored 100 Premier League goals.
Sterling reached the milestone with a match-winning penalty against Wolves on Saturday, after scoring 82 for City and 18 for Liverpool.
“It’s a great achievement,” said the 27-year-old England international. “There are some amazing players on that list and I’m really honored to be on it now.”
Sterling is the 32nd player to make the 100 club, with Alan Shearer topping the list with 260 goals.
City boss Pep Guardiola congratulated a player who has struggled to find a permanent place in the first team this season, having contributed to all of City’s previous trophies under the Spaniard.
“At his age 100 goals is a lot,” Guardiola said. Congratulations to him and the team. Raheem has always been important, but players need to understand the highs and lows of their careers. Sometimes I have no excuses for players who are not on the team, but Raheem is always aggressive in attack and dedicated with his defensive work.
Guardiola said: ‘Riyadh (Mahrez) is by far our best taker. Ilkay (Gundogan) is also good, but he is struggling with his back and has not played very well in the last two games.

“They were both off the field and Raheem showed the personality to take it and score. This is a value I appreciate.’
Goalkeeper Ederson also kept his 100th out in all competitions for City. He sent a message to Sterling in hopes that the England winger will stay with the club, despite concerns about a lack of playing time.
“I’m very happy he made it to 100. It was a great goal. He achieves his best performance for us. I hope he will remain important to us.”
