Onyemaechi played on loan to Boavista last season from second division side CD Feirense and his performances made them take up the option of signing him permanently for a fee in the region of €500,000. The fee will go to Nigeria Professional Football League side Remo Stars, who are the holders of his economy rights.
Upon the completion of his signing, the team entered into talks with FC Porto who were in the market for a left back to challenge Zaidu Sanusi, who ironically have been preferred ahead of Onyemaechi, the two occasions has been called up.
That notwithstanding Porto have already agreed a five year deal with the 24 year old, who played the entire duration of his team’s 4-1 win over Chaves in their first game of the new season in Portugal.
The game will likely be his last at the club with a fee already agreed between both teams and personal terms have been settled as well. He is due for a medical this week before his signing will be made official.
