The coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has already made up his mind on a maiden call up to on loan Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Rohr has the forward who has scored five goals in thirteen games for Union Berlin this season in the Bundesliga. A form which has now put him in the frame of a call up for the AFCON 2022 qualifiers in March.
Awoniyi will take the spot of Kelechi Iheanacho who was in the squad for the last game while Paul Onuachu keeps his spot as back up to Victor Osimhen owing to his form for Genk.
“ He ( Awoniyi) will be in the squad for the games in March. That’s for sure and Iheanacho for now is on the standby list unless something happens between now and when the list is out”, a source told Owngoalnigeria.com.
“ Onuachu can’t be left out of the team as he is the hottest now in Europe but as usually Osimhen will lead the line. That’s what it is for now unless something happens before the list is out”.
