A video which captured the emotional moment Mrs. Amarachi Okechi, the widow who was publicly tortured after she was branded a witch in Abia, was reunited with her daughter, has been shared online.
A horrific video of the widow being assaulted after her late husband’s brother’s wife accused her of being a witch made the rounds online a few days ago.
She was tied up publicly for two days, after which men in the Umueghu, Amaegbuato community, Nkpa Bende LGA, Abia State, took turns flogging her.
Her daughter, Favour, who revealed she had to leave Lagos for Umuahia when she learned what had been done to her mother, broke down in tears when she saw her mother in that heartbreaking state.
Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, shared the video on social media.
“After experiencing an assault, you need your loved ones around to help you through the process of healing. We came to Umuahia to STAND STRONG with the widow (tied and flogged), Mrs. Amarachi Okechi and her children. We wish to thank the wife of Abia State Governor for swiftly responding to our calls for intervention. No human deserves the pain and trauma this widow is going through right now.” He wrote.
